NorthStar News

SUMMER GROWTH GROUPS
Growth Groups are so vital to the life and dynamic of any church. There is no better place for people to grow, connect and serve. At NorthStar we strive to utilize our Groups in this way. As we gather together in homes each week we encourage each other to grow up to spiritual maturity, develop friendships and serve the Church body through various means.

Our Groups also take much needed breaks throughout the year as well. Our semester system makes this possible. We also strive to keep our leaders from burnout and give them a semester break after leading 2 consecutive semesters. During that time those leaders are looking for and helping to develop potential and future Group leaders.

Our new Summer semester of Growth Groups will begin the week of June 22nd and last for only six weeks! Then during the month of August we will meet together as a Church family on Wednesday nights for worship and fellowship.

Below is the calendar for the upcoming semester:
• Week of June 15 – Sign-up begins
• Week of June 22 – Groups begin
• Week of July 27 – Groups end

Our Fall Groups will begin sign-ups in August and begin the week of Sept.7th.

GAS BUY DOWN
Our Gas Buy Down project is well underway. Sign-up sheets will be in the Fellowship area on Sunday. Our NCC Leadership Team is hard at work making final preparations for this service event.

The Gas Buy Down project is an opportunity to serve our community by giving assistance at their point of need: GASOLINE! As gas prices soar many people are experiencing the squeeze. NorthStar wants to bring some relief. Not only will we discount their gas but we will also give them great service, if they choose to receive it, by washing windshields, pumping their gas and giving them a cold bottle of water and some info about NorthStar. It is exciting to share the love of God to people in our area!

Our point leader for this event is James Napier. See him Sunday and get signed up. The date of the event is Saturday June 21st.

PLANTING SEEDS
The Bible says “The person who plants a little will have a small harvest, but the person who plants a lot will have a big harvest.” 2 Cor. 9:6 (NCV) This summer I want us to put that verse to the test!

During the month of June let’s focus on planting a generous amount of seeds and watch as God gives us a great harvest. But these seeds are different than you might think. Here’s what I mean:

• Week of June 1 plant seeds of Fellowship by gathering together with other NCC folks for a meal and invite a person or family that doesn’t attend NCC to attend as well

• Week of June 8 plant seeds of Discipleship and go deeper with God by memorizing a verse of Scripture and having a daily quiet time

• Week of June 15 plant seeds of Service by doing a good deed for someone in need and ending the week by serving at the Gas Buy Down event

• Week of June 22 plant seeds of Evangelism by stepping out of our comfort zone and telling somebody about what Christ is doing in our personal lives and how they can experience Him as well

• Week of June 29 plant seeds of Worship by giving thanks and praise to God for everything every day of the week

Planting seeds can be done everyday of the week. Grab a bag and generously plant everywhere you go!

SUNDAY SEATING
As we are generously planting seeds we will also be seeing generous harvests which will include seeing new people come through our doors! We must make room for them so please be courteous and sit toward the front of the Worship Center. This will allow our guests and “late-comers” to find a seat toward the back. Establish this as a weekly habit! Our courtesy will speak volumes to others.

Imagine the feeling of visiting a new church and all the seats in the back were taken. The discomfort level would be big having to walk in front of all those folks to find a seat! Let’s keep that picture in mind as we enter the Worship Center each week.

CLASS 101
Our next Membership Class will be Sunday evening June 29. Take the time to encourage those folks who are not yet members to attend CLASS 101. Encouragement from others may be the key element to move them toward membership.

See you Sunday,

Pastor Joel
